What's in a name?

So what's in a name?  Be that your own name, the name of the company you work for or the name of a product? Does it matter or would you buy it regardless of what it is called? Those of you who have had children will have been through the painstaking effort of choosing a name for your young one. When you don't have children it sounds great fun. I had a soft spot for Noah, but with the surname of Good, Noah Good just didn't go. So the process starts, will it be shortened, will it go with a surname, what about a middle name, is there a family name, who's family name goes first? It's complicated! So naming...

The Learning Curve - Updated!

7 real life stories in the first month of a start up business I wrote this first blog after only 4 weeks since starting and 6 months later, I have decided to update it with a few more stories and insights.  I started my business over 7 months ago and I can now look back at the first month with an objective view. Made locally, Sold locally, Delivered locally.

Grainstore Studios Exhibition - 16/17th April 206 This coming weekend we are proud to exhibit our work in a new and exciting art studio and gallery based here in Faversham. As we are a Faversham based company, being part of the local Art and Design movement is very much part of our culture. Made locally, sold locally, delivered locally. To celebrate this event we have developed two new tables for show. So new in fact, that we have not had time to photograph them properly for the website. Here's a couple of pics from the exhibition: Again, as part of the philosophy, all products on show will be reduced in price if ordered over the weekend from the Grain Store...

Sustainability in Design & Manufacture

Sustainability is a core philosophy of the Good + Original brand. As well as making furniture that is built to last and designing longevity into its styling, the choices of materials and manufacturing processes adopted, ensure that there is as little impact as possible on future generations to manufacture today's products. We do this in a number of ways. Birch Faced Plywood Most Birch Faced plywood is sourced in Finland, Latvia and Russia. The Birch tree woods there are vast and replanted in an industry that's hundreds of years old. A relatively fast growing tree, growing 3-4 foot per year. This makes it a very sustainable  material As each layer of plywood is only 1.5mm in width, there is a lot of material for the size of the tree. This allows...
